The first quarter of 2026 was one of the most productive build periods in ArewaPen's history. Here is a summary of what shipped.

Reading streaks. The reading streak feature launched in Q1. Readers who open the app and read at least one chapter every day build a streak counter visible on their profile. Longer streaks unlock loyalty rewards and leaderboard placement. The feature has driven a measurable increase in daily active users, with the average reader opening the app 40% more often since launch.

Discussion threads. Every book now has a discussion thread where readers and the author can post. Think of it as a per-book community space, separate from chapter comments. Authors can post announcements, ask readers questions, or share behind-the-scenes notes. Readers can speculate about plot, recommend chapters to newcomers, and organise fan activity.

Improved notifications. The notification system was rebuilt from the ground up. Notifications now arrive significantly faster after an author publishes. Push notification delivery reliability improved to above 98%. Notification preferences are now granular—you can control separately whether to receive updates from followed authors, promotional messages, and system alerts.

Public profiles. Authors and readers now have public profile pages at arewapen.com/u/[username]. These pages show an author's published books, their follower count, and a bio. They are fully accessible without an account, making them shareable on social media and indexable by search engines.

Ads for advertisers. ArewaPen launched a self-serve advertising platform allowing Nigerian businesses to place targeted ads within the reading experience. Ads are clearly labelled and relevant to the platform's audience. Revenue from the advertising programme is reinvested into platform improvements and author support programmes.

What is next. Q2 2026 priorities include enhanced search and discovery (genre-specific rankings, personalised recommendations), a loyalty programme expansion, and continued performance improvements on the Android app. Stay tuned to this blog for updates.
