Safety, ratings, and content quality
ArewaPen builds safety into the platform at multiple levels—technical controls, community policies, and human review. Here is how it works and what it means for you as either a reader or a writer.
Content ratings: Everyone vs. Mature. Every book on ArewaPen carries a rating. Books marked Everyone are appropriate for general audiences, including younger readers. Books marked Mature contain strong language, adult themes, or explicit content that is only appropriate for readers 17 and older. As a writer, it is your responsibility to rate your book accurately. Misrating is a policy violation. The platform may adjust or remove content that is clearly misrated.
Prohibited content. ArewaPen removes any content that contains graphic sexual violence, non-consensual scenarios presented approvingly, content that sexualises minors, real-person defamation, promotion of terrorism or mass violence, or content targeting individuals with harassment. These rules exist to protect both readers and the writer community. Violations may result in content removal, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination depending on severity.
Copyright and original work. Upload only writing that you own or are explicitly licensed to distribute. Translating or adapting someone else's work without permission, copying paragraphs from published novels, or republishing content you found online is a copyright violation. If you receive a takedown notice for content on your ArewaPen book, address it promptly—repeated violations will lead to account suspension.
Access control for your work. Writers who want extra protection for their books can use the App Only setting. This restricts reading to the ArewaPen Android app, which makes text selection and screenshots harder than a web browser. Paid chapters are additionally protected by account-based purchase binding—there is no downloadable file, only in-app rendering.
How to report. If you encounter content that violates these policies, use the report function on the relevant book or chapter and choose the most appropriate category. Reports are reviewed by the ArewaPen safety team. You can also email info@arewapen.com for urgent safety concerns. Please include the URL and a brief description of the issue.
