Chapter Two: The Unexpected Meeting
by @eeshaert
Maryam always believed that some moments in life were written before we even knew they were coming.
That morning, she walked through the university gate with her usual calm steps, holding her books close to her chest. The sun shone gently above the busy campus, and students hurried around her, laughing and talking about their plans for the day.
Maryam found comfort in staying quiet.
She wasn’t the type of person who needed everyone to know her story. She believed that a person’s character spoke louder than their words.
As she entered the library, she searched for a quiet corner where she could study. The library was her favorite place — a place where the noise of the world became softer.
She reached for a book on the top shelf, but before she could grab it, another hand reached for the same book.
“Oh, sorry,” a voice said.
Maryam turned around.
Standing in front of her was a young man she had never seen before. He quickly stepped back and handed her the book.
“You can take it,” he said politely.
“Thank you,” Maryam replied softly.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
Not because they had nothing to say, but because they were both surprised by the simple moment.
The young man smiled slightly before walking away.
Maryam looked down at the book in her hands and shook her head. She didn’t know why such a small meeting stayed in her mind.
“It was just a book,” she whispered to herself.
But sometimes, the smallest moments are the beginning of the biggest stories.
Later that day, Maryam discovered that the stranger’s name was Adam.
And what she didn’t know was that Adam had noticed something about her too.
Not her veil.
Not her appearance.
But her kindness.
The way she thanked people.
The way she carried herself with respect.
The way she made silence feel peaceful.
Two people from different paths had crossed for the first time.
Neither of them knew where that path would lead.
But their story had already begun.
