The beginning.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

A young Hausa Muslim girl, Aisha, is from a respected family. Everyone thinks her life is perfect—she's well-behaved, religious, and doing well in school.

Then her father tells her that a man has come to ask for her hand.

The problem?

She already knows him.

He's the quiet young man who used to sit outside their neighbour's house every evening. The one she secretly admired but never spoke to because she believed “what is written for you will find you.”

But when he comes to ask for her hand, Aisha discovers something shocking:

He isn't the one who chose her.

Her father had received a letter from him months earlier—but the letter contained a secret that could destroy both families.

And now, just days before the wedding, Aisha finds that same letter hidden inside her mother's Qur'an.
