Sample · Chapter 1
People often believe that life changes in a single moment. It doesn't. Life changes through seasons—through the ordinary days we barely notice until they become memories. None of the six students walking through the gates of Hawthorne University that Monday morning knew that nine years later, they would look back on this day as the beginning of everything. Some would find love. Some would lose it. Some would discover loyalty. Others would become the very people they once promised never to be. But for now, they were simply strangers. --- Adrian Hayes tightened his grip on the strap of his backpack as he stood outside the university's towering entrance. As she walked toward the registration hall, she whispered to herself, "Maybe this is where I finally become me." --- Elsewhere, Mason Carter adjusted the sleeves of his expensive jacket. His father had built one of the country's biggest construction companies. Failure had never been accepted in the Carter household. Second place wasn't an achievement. It was an embarrassment. Mason had entered Hawthorne University with one goal. Graduate as the best student. Anyone standing between him and that dream would become competition. He simply didn't know who that person was yet. --- Serena Brooks arrived carrying only one suitcase and a worn guitar case. She had been raised by her grandmoth...
