Descent Into Desire

by Hafsat Moh'd Arabi · The Man In My Dream

Noor couldn't escape the vivid memories of her recurring dreams. They haunted her every waking moment, like a lingering melody that played in the background of her life. The enigmatic figure who had become a frequent visitor in her dreams now occupied her thoughts even during the day. The line between reality and the dream world was beginning to blur in ways she couldn't have imagined.

As a dedicated physiotherapist, Noor continued to pour herself into her work, using it as a shield against the unsettling dreams that had taken root in her mind. But deep down, she couldn't deny the growing attraction she felt toward the enigmatic figure.

Each night, when she closed her eyes, she was drawn back into that realm of darkness where he awaited her. His presence was magnetic, his gaze filled with an intensity that sent shivers down her spine. Despite the fear that initially gripped her, she couldn't help but be captivated by him.

It was a desire she couldn't fully comprehend, one that both frightened and exhilarated her. The enigmatic figure seemed to offer everything she had longed for a connection, an intimacy, a passion that had been absent from her life for far too long.

One evening, after a particularly grueling day at the hospital, Noor found herself sitting in her car, unable to drive home. Her thoughts were consumed by the dreams and the enigmatic figure who seemed to beckon her with an irresistible allure.

As she stared out at the darkening sky, a sense of longing washed over her. It was a longing for something she couldn't name, something that had remained buried beneath the layers of her dedication and ambition.

Just then, her phone rang, jolting her out of her reverie. It was her best friend, Maria, calling to check in on her.

"Noor, you've been distant lately," Maria said, concern evident in her voice. "Is everything okay?"

Noor hesitated, her thoughts a tumultuous sea of emotions. She longed to confide in Maria, to share the strange and unsettling experiences that had been plaguing her. But how could she explain the inexplicable, the dreams that blurred the lines between reality and fantasy?

"I'm just tired, Maria," Noor replied, her voice carrying the weight of her uncertainty. "Work has been overwhelming, that's all."

Maria wasn't convinced, and she knew her friend well enough to sense that something deeper was bothering her. "Noor, you can always talk to me. You know that, right?"

Tears welled up in Noor's eyes as she felt the weight of her isolation. "I know, Maria. It's just...I don't even know how to explain it. It's like I'm losing myself in something I can't control."

Maria's voice softened with empathy. "Whatever it is, you don't have to face it alone. We're here for you, Noor."

Noor managed a weak smile, grateful for Maria's unwavering support. "Thank you, Maria. I'll be okay. I just need some rest."

With a promise to catch up soon, Noor ended the call and finally drove home. As she lay in bed that night, she couldn't escape the pull of her dreams. The enigmatic figure awaited her in the darkness, and this time, Noor felt herself drawn to him with a sense of urgency she couldn't resist.

Their encounters in the dream world grew increasingly intimate, their stolen moments filled with a desire that left Noor breathless. It was a desire she had long denied herself, and now it surged within her with a ferocity she couldn't control.

One morning, as Noor prepared to leave for work, she couldn't help but notice the concerned expressions on the faces of her family. Her mother, Haj. Basira, and her brother, Nurah, exchanged worried glances, their voices filled with unspoken questions.

"Nurah, could you give us a moment alone?" Haj. Basira requested, her eyes never leaving Noor's face.

Noor's heart sank as she realized that her family had begun to sense the changes in her, the distance she had created as the dreams and desires had taken hold of her thoughts.

"Is something wrong, Mom?" Noor asked, trying to keep her voice steady.

Haj. Basira reached out to touch her daughter's cheek, her touch filled with motherly concern. "Noor, we're worried about you. You've been so distant lately, and it feels like there's something you're not telling us."

Noor's eyes welled with tears as she struggled to find the words to explain the inexplicable. How could she tell her family about the enigmatic figure who haunted her dreams, the desires that had begun to consume her?

"I...I can't, Mom," Noor whispered, her voice breaking. "There are things I can't explain, things I'm still trying to understand."

Nurah, who had returned to the room, spoke up with a gentle reassurance. "Noor, whatever it is, you don't have to go through it alone. We're here for you, always."

The weight of her family's love and concern was both comforting and overwhelming. Noor nodded, her tears falling freely now. "I promise, I'll figure things out. I just need some time."

With that, she hugged her mother and brother tightly, feeling their unwavering support even in the face of the inexplicable changes that had begun to overtake her life.

At the hospital, Noor's growing preoccupation with her dreams and desires didn't go unnoticed by her colleagues. Dr. Salis, who had previously encouraged her to take some rest, couldn't help but sense that something deeper was troubling her.

One evening, as they worked together on a patient's rehabilitation, he broached the subject with caution. "Noor, I can't help but notice that something's been bothering you for a while now. Is there anything you want to talk about?"

Noor hesitated, torn between the desire to confide in someone and the fear that no one would understand the surreal experiences that had taken hold of her life. She decided to share a fraction of her truth.

"I've been having these...dreams," she began, her voice hesitant. "They're so vivid, and there's this figure in them a man. He...he's become a constant presence in my life, even during the day."

Dr. Salis listened attentively, his expression a mix of concern and curiosity. "What kind of dreams, Noor?"

Noor bit her lip, searching for the right words. "They're...intimate, and they make me feel things I haven't felt in a long time. But they're also frightening, and I don't know what they mean."

After sharing her unsettling experiences and dreams with Dr. Salis, he offered her a thoughtful suggestion. "Noor, have you considered dating someone? Perhaps finding a companion might help you feel more grounded and less preoccupied with these dreams."

Noor pondered his words for a moment. It was a reasonable suggestion. Her dedication to her work had often left little room for romance, and the dreams had only intensified her sense of longing. She couldn't help but smile at the idea of companionship.

Dr. Salis continued, "You know, sometimes having someone special in your life can bring balance and happiness. It might be a good idea to explore that possibility."

At home Noor couldn't shake Dr. Salis' words from her mind. His gentle suggestion about dating someone had sparked a glimmer of hope within her. The enigmatic dreams and desires that had taken hold of her life left her yearning for a connection, for something real to ground her in the waking world.

As she contemplated her options, there was one person from her past who had never quite let go Isma'el. Their relationship had ended a long time ago, but he had always lingered on the periphery of her life, unwilling to move on.

With a mixture of hope and trepidation, Noor picked up her phone and dialed Isma'el's number. She asked him to meet her at her home, hoping that they could finally clear the air and put the past behind them.

Her mother, Haj. Basira, was delighted by the news. She had been worried about Noor's lack of relationship for quite some time. "Noor, my dear, it's about time you settled down. Isma'el is a nice young man. Maybe you can rekindle what you had."

Noor smiled, grateful for her mother's support. "I'll see how it goes, Mom. It's been a while, but maybe it's worth a try."

The evening arrived, and Isma'el came to Noor's home. They sat in the cozy living room, their conversation filled with the awkwardness of two people who hadn't seen each other in years.

As they talked, Noor noticed that Isma'el was getting closer to her, his intentions becoming increasingly clear. He leaned in as if to kiss her, but Noor's instinctual hesitation stopped him. It wasn't just her uncertainty about rekindling an old romance; it was the lingering presence of the enigmatic figure from her dreams that gave her pause.

Just as Isma'el's lips were about to meet hers, the room seemed to darken, and an eerie sensation washed over her. The enigmatic figure appeared before her, his presence now filled with anger and a warning that sent a shiver down her spine.

Noor recoiled from Isma'el, her eyes wide with fear. "Stop! Isma'el, we can't."

Isma'el, confused and taken aback, retreated quickly. "Noor, what's wrong? Why Noor? You have never stopped me in the past even though is wrong but you always loved it when i kissed you, why are you stopping me ?"

Noor struggled to find the right words, her voice trembling. "It's...complicated, Isma'el. There are things I can't explain, things that are happening to me that I can't control."

Isma'el's frustration was evident, but he could see the fear in Noor's eyes, and it gave him pause. "Noor, if there's something you're not telling me, you can trust me. I care about you, and I want to understand."

Noor shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "Isma'el, it's not that simple. There's someone...something in my life that I can't explain. I need time to figure things out."

Isma'el, realizing that there was more to the situation than he could comprehend, nodded reluctantly. "Alright, Noor. I won't push you, but just know that I'm here for you, no matter what."

As Isma'el left her home, Noor couldn't help but feel a sense of relief mixed with confusion. The enigmatic figure from her dreams had intervened, but for what purpose? And what did it mean for her burgeoning desire for a connection in the real world?

Noor's life had become a tapestry of complexities, where the threads of her dreams and her waking reality were tightly woven together. She couldn't escape the feeling that her journey had just taken a new turn, one that would lead her deeper into the

mysteries of her desires and the enigmatic figure who had become an ever-present force in her life.
